Publication Ethics

Publication of articles in the Journal of Engineering Innovation in Civil Systems (JEICS) is an essential part of the development of scientific knowledge, particularly in the field of civil engineering and engineering systems. Articles that undergo a peer review process reflect the quality of the authors’ work and their affiliated institutions, and support the responsible application of scientific methods.

Therefore, all parties involved in the publication process—authors, editors, reviewers, and the publisher—are required to adhere to ethical standards in scientific publishing.

The Faculty of Engineering, Fajar University, as the publisher of this journal, is committed to maintaining the integrity of all stages of the publication process. Editorial decisions are made independently and are not influenced by commercial interests, including advertising or other revenue sources. The editorial board is also willing to cooperate with other journals or publishers when necessary to uphold publication ethics.

Publication Decisions

The Editor-in-Chief is responsible for deciding which articles should be published, based on the evaluation and recommendations of reviewers and the editorial board. Decisions are made based on the manuscript’s scientific quality, originality, relevance to the journal’s scope, and compliance with legal requirements related to plagiarism, copyright infringement, and defamation.

Non-Discrimination Principle

Editors and reviewers evaluate manuscripts solely on their academic merit without regard to race, gender, sexual orientation, religion, nationality, or political philosophy of the authors.

Confidentiality

Editors, reviewers, and editorial staff must ensure the confidentiality of all submitted manuscripts. Information related to manuscripts must not be disclosed to anyone other than those directly involved in the publication process.

Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest

Unpublished materials disclosed in a submitted manuscript must not be used in an editor’s or reviewer’s own research without the express written consent of the author. All parties must disclose any potential conflicts of interest to the editor.

Duties and Responsibilities of Reviewers

Contribution to Editorial Decisions

JEICS applies a double-blind peer review process. Reviewers assist editors in making publication decisions and contribute to improving the quality of manuscripts.

Timeliness

Reviewers are expected to complete the review process within the specified timeframe. If this is not possible, reviewers should promptly notify the editor.

Confidentiality

Manuscripts received for review must be treated as confidential documents.

Objectivity

Reviews should be conducted objectively and supported by clear and constructive arguments. Personal criticism of the author is inappropriate.

Acknowledgment of Sources

Reviewers should identify relevant published work that has not been cited by the authors and report any substantial similarity with other works.

Conflict of Interest

Reviewers must not review manuscripts in which they have conflicts of interest resulting from competitive, collaborative, or other relationships with the authors or affiliated institutions.

Duties and Responsibilities of Authors

Reporting Standards

Authors must present their research accurately, honestly, and objectively, providing sufficient detail to allow replication.

Data Access and Retention

Authors may be required to provide raw data for editorial review and should be prepared to retain such data for a reasonable period.

Originality and Plagiarism

Authors must ensure that their work is entirely original. Any use of others’ work must be properly cited.

Multiple, Redundant, or Concurrent Publication

Authors should not submit the same manuscript to more than one journal simultaneously or publish the same research in multiple journals.

Acknowledgment of Sources

Proper acknowledgment of the work of others must always be given.

Authorship

Authorship should be limited to those who have made significant contributions to the research. All authors must approve the final version of the manuscript.

Hazards and Human or Animal Subjects

If the research involves hazardous materials or human or animal subjects, authors must clearly identify procedures and ethical considerations applied.

Disclosure of Conflicts of Interest

Authors must disclose any financial support or potential conflicts of interest that may influence the results or interpretation of their research.

Errors in Published Works

If authors discover significant errors in their published work, they must promptly notify the editor to correct or retract the article.

Final Note

All parties involved in the publication process of JEICS are expected to uphold the highest standards of publication ethics. Ethical and responsible publishing practices are essential to ensure the credibility and advancement of scientific knowledge in civil engineering.
